I am getting very tired of this

Rain... everyday for a week now.  This was taken at noon.

And it's supposed to rain for a few MORE days.

Sigh

Finally, the rain moves on

6 straight days of rain, set a record, over 7 inches.

We made the best of it, reading and enjoying crackers and salsa on the deck...

While the wind was whipping up whitecaps in our normally calm cove.

I did feel very sorry for the tourists who come for just a week.  It was possible they didn't see the sun at all.

But yesterday, the tropical weather finally turned...

We went to the beach.

Wind, Rain and Sunrise

Woke up over the weekend, worst weather yet...

Wind

Rain

Even whitecaps in our calm cove...

But the next day, a beautiful sun rise!

It all evens out!

Saharan Dust

Saharan Dust... Comes in from Africa.  See the grey skies and just the whisps of clouds...

The grey and the haze is called Saharan Dust.  Sure enough, it is dust blown into the air, and raised miles into the atmosphere because of the hot desert temperatures.  It is then carried across the ocean and doesn't settle till we get a good rain.

It is not pretty, and we don't have those pretty blue skies, but it is a good thing.  It blocks the sun, which cools the ocean, which helps prevent hurricanes.

Stuff I am learning.

Book Shopping and Book Reading

There is only one bookstore in the entire island...

Dockside Bookshop...

LocationHavensight Mall
Phone340/774-4937

Very convenient for cruise ship tourists...

And look a new book from a blogger buddy just came out... One of the few that they stocked more than one copy of...

Julie Hyzy, Grace Under Fire... One of the Merry Murderous Cooking bloggers at THE MYSTERY LOVER's KITCHEN.

The store is small in comparison to Barnes and Noble, but well stocked for an island of only 50,000 people.  Think the old Waldon Bookstores that used to be in the malls.

And yesterday was a good day to sit on the deck, listen to the rain and read a cozy...

Of course, during the other 98% of the days when the sun is shining, the sky is blue and I go to the beach or poolside to work on my tan and read a book, I try to pick something a little more butch...

Sorry Julie, I have an image.

On a Clear Day you can See - St John

It's been a little hazy around here lately.  The winds were blowing dust from Africa, without any rain to wash it away, it settles on the first thing that breaks up the air patterns... The Caribbean Islands.

But for the last two mornings, we woke up to rain.  It clears off quickly, just enough to clean the air...

The shot above is pushing my camera to the max, but just beyond the boats in my bay, those are the houses on St John, about 10 miles from my deck...

This guy flew into our yard while I was taking the photos of St John.

A nice day

Into everyone's life, Some Rain must fall

It's comin...

I could sit and watch the clouds and the weather front rolling in from the west.

I have big plans for the day, but look what's rolling towards me...

But wait... Is That blue skies trying to fight off the rain clouds???

They were fighting...

But they lost.

No way to go for my morning walk...

So I made a loaf of Cinnamon Raisin Walnut bread

But in the afternoon, I went on a sun shiney walk!

Views out our Deck and the Sun Shines

It's been three days of clouds in paradise.  The sun shined for a bit today, so I want to show off our beach and view from our deck...

Go out our door, down a half dozen steps and to the left are the lighted tennis courts.

To the right is the path to our beach...

Sadly, by the time Jackie got home from her even more inconvenient day job, the clouds were back.

But I hear the island is famous for it;s blue skies... just have to have a little patience, everything evens out!

In Everyone's Life, Some Rain Must Fall

New diggs - HOORAY

We are in our new permanent temporary home for the next 6 months (at least).

Haven't done a picture tour yet, because the weather sucks.  Doesn't seem fair to me that Jackie only gets two days a week off, and then it rains on BOTH of those days.

But, here's what it looks like when it rains in paradise (out our NEW Deck... Imagine the view in nice weather)

6 AM (the view was the same the night before)

8 AM (the view is going to be the same all day)

But the good news, the day before, we went exploring and found a great new hangout for us...

Absolutely the best burger we have found on the island... and funky drinks in funky glasses

You will be hearing a lot about Duffy's
