Feeding time for the Iguanas

Granny Iguana

There are several ways to tell the age of an iguana... size of their spikes, size of the flap of skin under their chin, that ball at their jaw line and color.  Young iguanas are green, older ones get pale, light and multi colored...

This guy (gal???) has it all.  Must be older than dirt.

They Ain't in South Dakota no More

Jackie's friends, Connie and Janet came to visit last week...

Mandatory walk on the beach...

Janet meets the locals...

Everyone loves the balcony at the Ritz...

And the Rocking Chairs are a nice break...

But Summer's here, and no matter how many breaks you take, you will still sweat.

Muskrat Love - Island Style

Go ahead, hit play...

The single greatest song of all time...

The Tango of love...

Look close... You may need to count the legs and tails to see what is happening...

And I especially like the satisfied look on his face as he walks away.

If these guys would stop posing, I would stop taking their photos

Three in one shot...

But as cool as seeing 3 together, this two shot is my favorite iguana photo so far.

Someone had an Accident - and one more Iguana Photo

St Thomas must have the best drivers in the world.  I have not seen a single car accident since I got to the island.  There are no straight aways, no passing because you can never see around the next curve... Everything is on a hill and the condition of the roads are an embarrassment.  There should be more accidents than what there are.

BUT...

I have just never been around when a car accident happened.  Every single car has a dent or ding, half the bumpers on the island have a serious dent, one third of the side mirrors are busted off.  When you rent a car, the insurance is $18 a day (higher than I have ever paid anywhere else).

And the mail boxes that were in a neat row, convenient for the post office trucks to deliver mail and not get out of their car are now lined up on the ground...

Mail is still delivered in them.

And despite promising mo more Iguana photos... here's one more...

See the baby!

Come and Visit... Do you wonder what will happen???

Come and visit... You will eat at some of the best (cheap) places to eat on the island...

Come and visit... I will cook for you (like these Caribbean Pineapple Jerk Chicken Wings)...

Come and visit... we will go for a walk along the beach every morning.

Come and visit... We will go snorkeling

Come and visit... We will go to Duffy's Love Shack, the best parking lot bar on the island!

Come and visit... Even the "virgin' Island Strawberry Daiquiris are something special.

Come and Visit... We will enjoy an adult beverage served in a fish bowl.

Come and Visit... Where you will arm yourself with liquid courage...

Come and Visit... You will meet Cletus, the only Irish folksinger on the island...

Come and Visit... Where, armed with liquid courage, you will sing and dance with Cletus...

Come and Visit... We will hunt for sea turtles!

Come and Visit... we will take organized tours where you see scenery around every other corner.

Come and Visit... Where around the other corners are convenient gift shops...

Come and Visit... We will go to TRUNK BAY in St John, one of the tops in the world!

Come and Visit... You may leatn a little history (but just a little).

Come and Visit... We'll enjoy a nice light salad.

Come and Visit... You may get kissed on the ass.

Come and Visit... To see the wildlife.

Come and Visit... The door is always open (so it must be OK).

Come and Visit... You may learn the skills needed to catch a baseball boy.

Come and Visit... Lots to see

Come and Visit...  Memories to last a lifetime.

The Ritz Carlton IGUANAS

Our condo almost shares a beach with the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Time Share property.  We walk through there often.  Plenty of photo opps, so you will see their property again...

But this gy is unusual.  he obviously has been feed by guests often.  Instead of running from people (like every other iguana I have met, he walks right up and waits for lunch...

He is about 4 feet long... among the biggest I have seen

Here's his beach roaming counterpart... equally unafraid of humans...

But the scary ones are the ones that just blend into the rocks and surprise you.

IGUANAS EVERYWHERE!

Not as easy to see (or hear) as the roosters, but there certainly are a BUNCH of these critters on the island...

This guy was in the grass at FDR park, where Jackie and I have lunch most days.

This one is named IGGY, and is the "mascot" of the hotel we are staying at, "The Green Iguana"

And this guy I saw in the bushes at Bolongo Bay.  We looked each other up and down for a few minutes and then suddenly...

He climbed up the side of the building... it is a three story building, never slipped a bit and made it very fast...

Even islanders were surprised when I told em... Good thing I had my camera.

Nothing to do with Iguanas, but I do know what I like in art!
